Why is spaciousness important?
Spaciousness represents:
Possibilities that have not yet been made material
Openness to receiving
A desire to connect on a heart level
It feels safe, it feels good, it feels nourishing
Energetically it’s a higher vibration than closing down due to fear and anxiety
Why do gifted and neurodivergent adults need space? And lots of it?
Highly sensitive/Hypersensitive and highly intelligent people have a lot of thoughts about so many things.
Many of these thoughts are not verbalised - partly because the people in our world, family, friends, colleagues, cannot hold the space for that volume and depth.
The capacity of each person is the max capacity. Not a judgement, just a fact. It is what it is.
I know how valuable and rare lots of space is.
Space to think
Space to speak
Space to write
Space to feel emotions
Space to reflect, discuss and consider the multitude of possibilities.
That’s why I like to be able to offer extra time to talk over the 1hr if I have the time. That’s not poor boundaries — that’s my way of being generous. It is an intentional conscious choice to give my clients what they need. As long as I can afford to be generous I will.
The need for extra space is also why I invite my clients to write and share their thoughts, insights, successes, problems they are stuck on - in between sessions. They can feel fully supported in a way that they don’t with most professionals.
I treat my clients like I would my family and friends. I make sure I have the energy and time for them. That’s why I try not to work with more than 9 people a week.
I must honour them in a way that they were not honoured before. Due to being misunderstood, due to them not understanding their authentic needs because they had to put their safety and need to belong first.
That strategy worked well — masking and suppressing - until it stopped working well and was overused to the point where it became unhelpful. Leading to exhaustion, burnout, loss of sense of authentic self, loss of confidence, self esteem and sense of agency.
Let’s allow all that unhelpful suppressing of our fullest selves go — so we can all BE present in the fullness of what is true.
