Recently, I finally found the right coach for my teen son and for myself in the parenting sphere of life.
Over the years I’ve met and had so many coaches — all sorts. Inspiring ones, newby ones, ones that do things I’d never really heard of. Ones that I highly respected, ones that I felt were maybe a bit icky.
Like any profession I guess!
The reason I’m sharing is because:
1) I want to acknowledge that coaches need coaching — or should I say coaches should get coaching as it means we get to challenge ourselves and keep growing in self awareness and mastery in different areas of our life. It means we invest in what we believe in. It means we walk our talk.
I remember a long time ago when I heard a coach say “I can’t afford a coach” and at the same time wondering why people were not signing them on as a coach. There was misalignment. How can you expect others to invest in you if you aren’t investing in yourself?
Obviously there’s other factors to take into account here but I’m talking about those with a money mindset block rather than someone who genuinely shouldn’t be investing in coaching if they are in genuine financial struggles.
The impetus for this share was my son saying “but you’re a coach, why are you getting a coach?”!
2) I’ve always found lots of choice when it came to business coaching — however when it came to specialised 2e/gifted/ND adult coaching and family coaching I had slim pickings (that’s why I ended up trying lots of alternative approaches to create my own solutions ).
I’ve tried a ND family coach before and was really really disappointed and felt so frustrated. In fact it put me off for a long time (but luckily this was what helped fuel me to create my own high level service for 2e/gifted 🙏). At the time though, I didn’t realise the difference between 2e and ND!
So I kept an eye open for who might be out there for me but it’s taken a little while!
Every human being goes through life stages such as toddler, teen, adult, parent, grandparent, midlife, golden years. In our house we have hit hormone central with our teens and combined with big life transitions it’s crazy turbulent!
So I realised for a while I was struggling as I didn’t have the right guidance or tools for this stage. And I was patiently looking at what my options were.
Happy to say I finally found 2 great coaches and we are working our way through their programmes. I must say finding the right support and wisdom that I know intuitively aligns to my values and needs is such a BIG relief.
So my message is if you are struggling to find the right coach/other professional don’t give up and don’t settle! The right support is out there, you just have to keep looking and trust your gut. It will tell you when you have found The One! (or Ones!)
It’s always darkest before the dawn.
When you feel relief and hope you are on the right path!!
